RMG - Rector Major at IUS General Assembly
Rome, RMG - January 2022 - "Challenges of Higher Education in the Congregation" is the title of the presentation that the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, gave during the second day of the General Assembly of Salesian Institutions of Higher Education (IUS). The reflection, offered as part of the assembly that explores the state of the art of university and para-university institutions in the Salesian world, focused on the challenge of reconciling evolution of educational methods, freedom of tenure by faculty and the charismatic identity of the Salesian mission. "Salesian identity means, for example, that we do not discriminate against any person, neither by language, nor by nation, nor by religion; it means that Salesian institutions must make very clear that they are founded on a great many Christian and evangelical values," the Rector Major said. "And I'm talking about evangelical values, not proselytizing. Values such as respect for the person, honesty, concern for the weakest, the spirit of family and optimism as the way of life of this institution."
