Brazil - Young man from "Parque Dom Bosco" wins an international award for water purification from microplastics
Itajaí, Brazil - October 2021 - The young 17-year-old apprentice Gabriel Fernandes, from the Salesian house "Parque Dom Bosco" in Itajaí, won the "Stockholm Junior Water Prize", an international prize created in 1997 which every year sees thousands of bright young minds committed to water conservation and other sustainability issues compete. The project by Gabriel Fernandes, of the "São José" Institute, assisted by Professor Fernanda Poleza, is a low-cost solution and improves water quality by retaining plastic particles with a special filter. The project will also be adopted by the Itajaí water company, in the Semasa Water Treatment Station.
