Italy - First meeting of Sicily’s young in Civil Service
Catania, Italy - October 2021 - The first meeting of the young people serving the community via the Civil Service with the Salesians and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians took place on 5 October. It was attended by about 200 young volunteers who are carrying out their year of service in the various offices of Catania and the Province. The first speech was by the Provincial of the Salesians of Sicily and Tunisia, Fr Giovanni D'Andrea, who wanted to greet and wish all young people to live the year of Civil Service with the commitment to be "honest citizens, good men and women of faith." After the institutional greetings, the central theme of the meeting was presented, organized by the volunteer operators of the "Madre Morano" house of the FMA and by the volunteer operators of the Salesian Oratory "San Filippo Neri", who both focused on the founding values of active citizenship: solidarity, respect, responsibility and the common good. Subsequently, two former volunteers of the Civil Service with the Salesians, Manuela Prestianni and Bruno Lo Vecchio, shared their testimony.
