Italy - Fr Alfred Maravilla visits "Latinos en Don Bosco" community
Genoa, Italy - February 2021 - On Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 February, the General Councilor for the Missions, Fr Alfred Maravilla visited the Latin American community "Latinos en Don Bosco" at the Salesian parish of Genoa-Sampierdarena. Respecting health protocols, Fr Maravilla met some of their members and presided over the Eucharist. "Latinos en Don Bosco" is a community made up of about 1,000 people from different parts of Genoa. The Salesian community of Sampierdarena welcomed the first migrants 10 years ago. Currently the parish organizes a Mass for them in Spanish on Saturday evening and Sunday at noon, which before the pandemic was normally well attended; the children of migrants actively participate in the oratory and parish catechesis for the sacraments; and even some Italians now join the Mass in Spanish. The community is led by the parish priest, Fr Daniel Coronel, who was sent as a missionary within the Project for Europe.
