Portugal - COVID-19: Salesians provide structures and support
Portugal - April 2020 - The Salesian schools of Évora, Estoril, and Mogofores have already expressed their willingness to local civil authorities to provide their facilities to support measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic in the country. Faced with this situation, the "Fundação Salesianos" and the Salesians collaborate in various ways to respond to the needs of the community. For example, the director of the Salesians of Mogofores and director of the National Shrine "Our Lady Help of Christians", Fr José Augusto Fernandes, gave his support to the local authorities to collaborate with the "Social Support Line"; in Lisbon, the Salesians, since March 30th, have distributed 500 daily meals to the homeless; the “SolSal - Salesian Solidarity” family-focus service in Évora, Funchal and Lisbon continues to support families, in particular with the distribution of food baskets.
