India - Gathering of over 500 young people from Yercaud oratory and evening school
Yercaud, India - March 2020 - On March 15, over 500 young people from the oratory and evening school of the Salesian "Retreat" center in Yercaud attended an awareness-raising day on the subject of nature conservation. The event opened with the inaugural prayer and the welcome of the Director, Fr A. Raj, SDB. A masquerade party and various prize competitions followed. Then, at the auditorium, the young people were informed about nature conservation techniques. Ramesh Kirubakaran, director of the Salesian center kindergarten, spoke to participants about the importance of ecological diversity and ecological balance in the hills of Shevaroy. His presentation ended with participants promising to help preserve nature. This year's large number of participants is also due to the work Salesian post-novices are carrying out in 61 nearby villages. The event was organized by the Shevaroy Hills Tribal Development Department, a sector of social pastoral care in the Yercaud "Retreat".
