Green Club students and leaders gathered in a 3-day workshop in the Vocational Training Center of the Salesians Don Bosco in Bombo to work together for a better future for our planet. The workshop was facilitated by young trainers from Jugend Eine Welt and local experts and focused on environmental education. Among the participants were students and patrons of three Don Bosco Green Club locations: Kamuli, Bombo, and Palabek. The workshop equipped participants with materials and tools for environmental awareness raising which shall be useful in their future activities as Green Club leaders.
After the workshop in Bombo, the team continued to the refugee settlement in Palabek in the North of Uganda. In this area, over 50,000 people, mainly from South Sudan, came to find shelter. The Salesians of Don Bosco recently opened the first Vocational Training Center (VTC) in the settlement. In Palabek, the Green Club leaders had the opportunity to put into practice what they just had learned. With the support of Fr Jeffery Canisius Albert, SDB and principal of the VTC, a Green Club workshop and tree-planting activities took place. “The positive, optimistic approach of the young trainers from Jugend Eine Welt, their open-minded and cheerful appearance is very contagious”, highlighted Fr Jeffery. “We really look forward to continuing this fruitful cooperation in the future.”
