We felt his presence especially in an Ebolowa prison. A very small place for hundreds of people, a place where we were able to see evil, where we saw smiles, where we shared volleyball games and eucharists.
Faith cannot be missing when everything else is missing. We did like Don Bosco with the boys from the prison in Turin: we pray and we play, we share our time with these people who find themselves there ...
Our life there was very simple and humble. We got up very early. The first thing we did was pray and then have breakfast. We taught English and Spanish. We ate bananas, rice and avocado. We played soccer and basketball. Perhaps what has most touched our hearts was to see with our eyes that in life there are indispensable things, others essential and others simply useless.
For many people it is indispensable to have something to eat every day and to be able to drink clean drinking water, even if you have to walk two kilometers to get it and carry it on your head.
We have learned great lessons of life and that there is always a time for everything and we are responsible for what we do with the time we have in life. Thanks to the people we have met and with whom we have shared life.
In Cameroon we got to know a little of the culture of its people and we understood the value of living the present moment. Life flows, it goes away and only what we have lived remains and this is why the most beautiful thing left to us is our affection and sympathy for the Cameroon children and young people of the Ebolowa region."
