This new infrastructure is a 7,500 square meter building, connected to the existing building by an innovative bridge and developed across seven floors.
Present at the inaugural event were Fr Javier Herrán, Rector of the University, Andrés Bayolo, Vice-Chancellor of the Center, Fr Francisco Sánchez, Provincial of Ecuador, Reinhard Heiserer and Michael Richter, respectively Director and Member of the Salesian NGO "Jugend Eine Welt". In addition, a number of University authorities, teachers, students and administrative staff were also present.
"We have not inaugurated only a building, but a model of practices in the Engineering faculties of the university," the University Chancellor pointed out.
After the blessing of the building, by Fr Juan Arias, there was the ribbon-cutting ceremony and, subsequently, a commemorative plaque was unveiled.
"We are very happy with the results achieved. Whenever I have the opportunity to come here, I see that new things have been created, such as these workshops, where students can put their knowledge into practice," said Reinhard Heiserer.
Subsequently, the authorities present took part in a guided tour of the laboratories containing avant-garde equipment and instruments, so that Salesian students are given complete and comprehensive formation.
"On behalf of all the students, I would like to thank all the authorities for the transformation and constant growth of this institution, which in recent years has enabled thousands of young people, often with scarce economic resources, to have a study center with a high academic profile available," said student Oscar Morquecho.
