On Sunday 11 January 2018 the registrations for taking part in the WYD of 2019 were opened and the same Pope Francis, through a tablet, from the window of the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican, was the first to join the event.

Within the WYD, as per tradition, a moment of special celebration for SYM's young is expected. "The purpose of the event is that the young people of the SYM throughout the world have a moment of profound encounter, in which they are offered a family experience, which strengthens the protagonism of youth and gives them the opportunity to know the charismatic richness of the Salesians in the world," the organizers explain.

There will be hundreds of young people who will participate in this great world event, together with the Rector Major of the Salesians and the Mother General of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, who "will offer profound messages to the participants, so that every young person can live an experience of grace and question oneself about one's life."

The atmosphere of this meeting is that of a party, of joy and sharing. Linguistic barriers do not exist because everyone speaks the same language: the Salesian idiom.

At WYD 2019 of Panama, the SYM groups will meet on Wednesday, January 23 at the Don Bosco Technical Institute. The aim of the meeting "is to live the feast, an experience of family, of worldwide fraternity, of youthful protagonism and of grace." On the day's website, it is also specified that "during the celebrations your group can participate with an artistic program that shows the culture of your country or spread the joy of Salesianity", and you can also "present an initiative, a Salesian house or work, an apostolate or a youth program at the Salesian Fair spotlighting information and visibility for young people."
