Benin is one of the world's poorest countries: more than 30% of its population lives below the poverty line. Despite being one of the strongest models of democracy in West Africa, Benin has yet to develop projects that protect the rights of the child.
This country must progress, above all, in areas such as the right to life, health, education and identity.
Salesians continue to contribute to education. In the "Mamá Margarita" house, children can sleep, have an education that allows them to improve their chances and feel safe. Thanks to a project developed in other parts of the world, Workshops for Dressmaking and Motorcycle Repairs have been equipped and are providing professional training that enables them to enter the workplace and improve their living conditions. Rooms have also been equipped to increase their presence at night.
"Solidaridad Don Bosco" thanks the institutions and people who have collaborated in the "Change the story" campaign. "We will continue to work with the Salesians of Cotonou to respond to this complex situation that so many children live in Benin," organizers say.
