(ANS - Santiago) - Along with the start of this year's second semester lessons, the opening ceremony of the new Learning Resources Center (CRA, in Spanish) took place on Wednesday, 2 August, at the "Silva Henríquez" Catholic University (UCSH). This is a new opportunity that is integrated within the Library and Resources for Information Department, and is designed to strengthen the teaching/learning process and to promote the quality of education.

The event was attended by University authorities, including the President and Grand Chancellor, Fr Alberto Lorenzelli, SDB, and Rector Jorge Baeza. Mr Baeza spoke of the center's completion as the result of the efforts made by the UCSH in its program of institutional improvement.

"We are more in front of the traditional library made of books and silence, but we are proceeding towards these other Resources for Learning where students choose their technological resources; he or she can see a movie, sit down to talk ... This is what we have now inaugurated. We hope that by 2020 we will be able to replicate this center, but with a difference, that is, a surface of 2800 meters², as planned in relation to the construction of the CRA between Via Carmen and Via Marín," said the Rector.

Currently, the CRA provides users with over 200 meters² equipped with technological instruments, databases, magazines, audio equipment and digital whiteboards and it intends encouraging students to take a proactive position in their relationship with knowledge.

In short, the launch of the CRA was considered by the entire educational community as an important step forward for the university as it consolidates improvements in the area of access to information, educational resources and technology, and contributes to the democratization of relationships in education and the process of teaching and learning.
