Poland - Celebrations for 100 Years of VDBs
Częstochowa, Poland - May 2017 - On 20 and 21 May, the Volunteers of Don Bosco (VDB) of Poland, Russia and Ukraine, in communion with VDBs from all over the world, met in Częstochowa, in the Memorial Home of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński at the Sanctuary of Jasna Góra to celebrate the centenary of their Institute. The hosts welcomed the VDB Regional Manager; on behalf of the Salesians of Poland, Fr Andrea Wujek, Provincial of Warsaw, intervened; for the FMAs, the Mother Provincials of Wrocław and Warsaw, Sr Anna Świątek and Sr Lidia Strzelczyk; greetings were also offered by several Michaelite Sisters and by Fr. Augustyn Dzięzziel, SDB, who arrived from Moscow, and is co-founder of the VDBs in Poland. The culminating moment was the Mass presided over by Msgr. Giuseppe Szamocki, Delegate of the Polish Episcopate for Secular Institutes. On May 21, the VDBs held celebrations with the current assistants and with Ms. Jolanta Szpilarewicz, President of the World Conference of Secular Institutes. The solemn Eucharistic adoration was, above all, a time of thanksgiving for the gift of life, faith, of the Institute itself and of every VDB. The Eucharist, presided over by the regional assistant, Fr Robert Wróblewski, and concelebrated by six local assistants, concluded the festivities.
