On 31 March, 52 new professionals graduated from the UPS South campus in Quito, qualified in Systems Engineering, Electronics, Environmental and Civil Engineering and Management. Among them were two young people from the Salesian missionary work. One was Paúl Naikiai Jintiach, originally from the Salesian Mission in Bomboiza, and the other was Luis Andrango from the Turuçu-Eloy Alfaro indigenous community, former Director of the National Confederation of Indigenous and Black farmworkers (FENOCIN). Both of them graduated as Management Engineers.
The ceremony was attended by academic authorities and family members of students. The Vice-Rector of the UPS, the anthropologist prof. José Juncosa, extended congratulations to the new professionals and stressed the importance of Salesian education: "We try especially to train creative engineers, able to start their own businesses, entrepreneurs and not just future employees. The UPS forms part of a university-ecosystem, which opens new horizons. It is not easily caught up in regulations, but creates an inclusive environment full of opportunities. This university has more and more people who join this dynamic academic, the proof are the 58 research groups of 270 teachers and 165 university students who were able to give identity to the teaching process and research" he said.
For his part, the Director of the Electronic Engineering course talked about the importance of the human aspect in professional work. "What defines us is the human factor, because it strengthens confidence, commitment and responsibility. You have an important mission for the company. "
Both Paúl Naikiai Jintiach and Luis Andrango said that "here we understand the true meaning of the words friendship, unity, solidarity, trust and professionalism."
