For four days, members of the management team from various Provinces of the Americas — Fr. Alex Figueroa, Director, from Central America; Marlon Herrera, Provincial Councilor for Networking, from the Antilles; Br. Jesús Olarte, SDB, Formation Councilor, from Northern Argentina; and Claudia Portela, Provincial Councilor for Communications, from Mexico-Guadalajara — met face-to-face with the operational team of the Network: Alexandra Dávalos (incharge - Networking), Paola Gómez (incharge - formation), and Soledad Soto (incharge - communications).
During the working sessions, both teams reviewed in detail the annual operational plan for each strategic line, evaluating the relevance of each of the proposed processes for 2025 and various projections for 2026. They scheduled the different activities to be carried out during this period, along with a budget analysis.
On Tuesday, February 12, the participants visited the facilities of the "Salesian Project Ecuador - Northern Zone" located in the La Tola neighborhood, where they had an explanatory dialogue about the work of this Salesian social project with Fr. Esteban Ortiz, Rector of the community, and Ana Karen Espinoza, coordinator of the "Acción Guambras" program, as well as two educators from the center. This allowed them to learn about the assistance provided to children, adolescents, and young people supported by the Salesian work.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for a preliminary presentation of the data obtained from the research titled "Participation and Social Competencies of Young People in Vulnerable Situations: Recommendations for Institutional Policy on Violence Prevention and Promotion of a Culture of Peace." This initiative, promoted by RASS, is being developed in collaboration with the Salesian Polytechnic University (UPS) and the Salesian Project of Ecuador (PSE), with the aim of understanding the reality of children, adolescents, young people (and their families) in vulnerable situations who are supported by the Salesians in the country.
On February 13, the research professors presented the most relevant findings of the process to the representatives of PSE and the management and operational teams. This analysis will not only enrich the accompaniment strategies in Ecuador but will also lay the groundwork for replicating the research in other countries on the continent.
"As a network of Salesian social works and services that accompany children, adolescents, young people, and families at high risk of social exclusion in America, we strive to ensure that RASS continues to contribute to the mission of the communities we support," testified Soledad Soto. "This meeting was a crucial opportunity to consolidate strategies and strengthen the planned work to carry out coordinated and sustainable actions. We reaffirm our commitment to providing comprehensive responses that promote dignity, development, and inclusion through articulated work, continuous training, and effective communication."
