Madrid, Spain - January 2025 - A meeting of the national Salesian Educational Sport team took place in the headquarters of the Province of St James the Greater on 17 January,  The event brought together the coordinators of educational sport from both Salesian Provinces in Spain: Diego Pérez, (Mary Help of Christians - SMX) and Mario Fernández (St. James the Greater - SSM), as well as the Provincial Delegates for Youth Ministry Fr Xabier Camino (SSM) and Fr Jordi Lleixà (SMX), accompanied by a large representation of the commissions from both Provinces. During the day they worked on drawing up the National Formation Plan for Salesian Coaches, an initiative that aims to consolidate sport as an educational and pastoral tool. Mario Fernández said: ‘Sport, in the Salesian environment, must be a school of life that inspires young people to grow in values’. In the same vein, Diego Pérez stressed: ‘We are building a model that combines education, fraternity and a Christian vision of sport’. Another key moment of the meeting was the planning of the next Salesian Day of Educational Sport, which will be held on 22 March at the SSM provincial headquarters. This event will be a space for coordinators, coaches and educators to share the joy of sport as a means of personal and community growth. This day will be a special occasion to transmit the values of teamwork, coexistence and to bring young people closer to the Salesian charism. With these initiatives, the SSM and SMX Provinces strengthen their commitment to educational sport, always placing young people at the centre of their mission and renewing Don Bosco's vision of the importance of integral education.
