Argentina – Celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the First Salesian Missionary Expedition are underway

12 December 2024

(ANS – Buenos Aires) – In tune with the great ecclesial event of the Jubilee 2025, the Salesian Congregation will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the First Missionary Expedition, sent by Don Bosco himself to Argentina, which arrived in Buenos Aires on 14 December 1875.

The beginning of this particular jubilee year will therefore already take place this Saturday, 14 December 2024, with a solemn celebration at the Mater Misericordiae church, in the Congreso district of Buenos Aires, the place where the first Salesians settled, led by Fr John Cagliero, SDB.

The celebration will be presided over by the Superior of the Blessed Ceferino Namuncurá Province of Argentina South (ARS), Fr Darío Perera.

So that all Salesian houses in Argentina can participate in this moment of celebration, as well as members of the Salesian Family around the world, it will be possible to attend Mass even remotely through direct streaming on the YouTube channel of the Salesian Bulletin, starting at 11 a.m. in Argentina (UTC-3).

Salesian Argentina has developed a rich programme of evocative and meaningful celebrations throughout the upcoming year. The detailed list of activities is accessible at the following link.
