Kenya – A Marian spirituality centre in the heart of Nairobi
Nairobi, Kenya – September 2024 – A Marian spirituality centre is about to become a reality in Nairobi, Kenya, following a significant pilgrimage undertaken by three Salesians and nine lay faithful from the local Shrine of Mary Help of Christians. The group embarked on the journey on 21 September, starting from the Mother of God National Shrine in Subukia and covering a total of 224 kilometres in eight days, finally arriving at the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians in Nairobi. The pilgrims walked an average of thirty kilometres a day, stopping in several parishes and admiring breathtaking landscapes. Local Catholics expressed admiration for the commitment of the participants, who also carried out many charitable actions along the way. The last day of the pilgrimage saw a significant increase in the number of participants: about 200 Christians from the Don Bosco Youth Education Centre in Karen joined the group to celebrate their arrival in Nairobi. Once they arrived at the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians on 28 September, the pilgrims were welcomed with warmth and enthusiasm. The event was not only a spiritual journey, but also raised funds to support the creation of the Marian Spirituality Center, whose purpose will be to provide a welcoming environment for young people, transmitting the Salesian spirit through education, community and the good use of free time.
