RMG – The experience of Elisée Tuungane Nzibi, from the Central Africa Province (AFC) to the Province of Southern Italy (IME): missionary of the 154th Salesian Missionary Expedition

(ANS – Rome) – Along with the new missionaries, among those who took part in the Corso Germoglio and the 155th Salesian Missionary Expedition, there are three missionaries from past expeditions who had not been able to participate in the course and delivery of the missionary crucifix in the recent past. Among them, Elisé Tuungane Nzibi, a Congolese missionary in the Province of Southern Italy.

Hi Elisée! Could you please introduce yourself…

My name is Elisée Tuungane Nzibi and I was born in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo. I have been a Salesian of Don Bosco since 15 August 2020. From an early age, I attended the Salesian Don Bosco ITIG House, first as a child in the oratory, as a faithful Christian in the chapel, and then as a student at the school.

What inspired you to choose to become a missionary?

At school we had a vocational group and a missionary group. The Salesians who accompanied us usually told us about the Salesian missionary vocation. In addition, I saw the lifestyle of some Salesian missionaries and this motivated me particularly. I am very happy to leave and be a sign and bearer of the love of Christ to the young. I try to be a witness to the Gospel through my lifestyle.

Do you have any fears or concerns about the new place, culture and people?

Fear is always there, but with God's grace I hope to overcome it. I trust that God will never abandon me.

How did your family members, friends and confreres react when you told them about your missionary vocation?

My family has always encouraged me in my vocational journey. I must say that they were already prepared, knowing the missionary dimension of the Salesian Congregation.

Do you have some great missionary role models in mind whose lifestyle you want to follow?

During my period of study, I met a Salesian brother, Br. Honorato Alonso, who motivated and encouraged me.

What is your message to young people about missionary choice and vocation?

I ask young people who are still discerning their vocation not to be afraid to commit themselves to serving the Lord.
