09 August 2024

Mumbai, India – August 2024 – The “U-Turn” event, a youth night vigil organized by Prison Ministry Mumbai, “Cafasso Squad” and Don Bosco Youth Services, was held on August 3, 2024 in Don Bosco, Matunga. The event aimed to inspire and motivate the youth to become members of the “Cafasso Squad”, the new group of the Salesian Youth Movement of the Salesian Province of Mumbai (INB) who do prison pastoral care. The event commenced with a prayerful atmosphere, featuring a specially composed PMM song. Fr. Savio Silveira, INB Provincial, extended a warm welcome to the attendees. Fr Jervis D’Souza delivered a powerful message on hope and personal transformation, setting the tone for the event. A captivating campfire was inaugurated by Fr Glasten, the coordinator for Prison Ministry of the Archdiocese, who emphasized the significance of hope. A presentation on Prison Ministry provided valuable insights into the initiative. Two prisoners shared their life experiences, offering raw insights into their challenges and triumphs. Members of the Cafasso Squad, also shared their personal journeys, fostering empathy and understanding among the youth. The night vigil was a vibrant mix of games, quizzes, and energetic performances by the music band YU4C. A profound praise and worship session led by YU4C and a divine mercy adoration conducted by Fr. Nicholas and DBYS Youth created a spiritually uplifting environment. The Cafasso Squad facilitated a creative activity where youth designed bookmarks for children in a shelter home, promoting compassion and social responsibility. The event concluded with a solemn Holy Eucharist in the shrine, followed by a vote of thanks by Sydelle. At the end of the vigil many youths were inspired to join the Cafasso Squad and give their bit of contribution to Prison Ministry Mumbai.
