The meeting commenced with a Eucharistic celebration led by Fr. John Parankimalil, the secretary of the Salesian Provincials Conference of South Asia. Coinciding with the feast day of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Fr. John emphasized the crucial role of discernment in the formation process. He highlighted that discernment—being attuned to the voice of God—should transcend specific decisive moments and become a daily habit. He further added that young people, especially those in formation, should be helped to listen to the voice of God amidst the cacophony a cluttered life.
During the inaugural function, Fr. Sunil Kerketta, the vice-provincial of Kolkata province, welcomed the delegates to the "City of Joy" with a traditional Utorio. The event saw the presence of Fr. Jose Kuttianimattathil and Raymond Callo from the formation department in Rome, along with Fr. Banzelao Teixeira, the South Asia Formation Delegate
Following the inaugural function, the Salesian Lectio was animated by Fr. Ashley Miranda, the vice-provincial of Mumbai Province. Through texts from Scripture and Christus Vivit, he urged participants to deeply reflect on the theme of discernment. The remainder of the day was dedicated to discussions and reflections on various aspects of formation, setting a contemplative tone for the days to follow.
This annual meeting serves as a vital platform for the Salesians of South Asia to engage in meaningful dialogue, fostering growth and addressing the challenges within their formation processes.
