Brazil – Central Commission of Salesian Schools in America meeting in São Paulo

26 July 2024

(ANS – São Paulo) – From July 18 to 24, the members of the ESA central commission, accompanied by both reference persons from the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Sister Ivone Goulart, and Salesian Father Claudio Cartes, met in the Province of Our Lady of Aparecida of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, in São Paulo, Brazil.

The agenda of the meeting included the detailed review of the evaluation of the 5th Continental Congress held in May, in Guadalajara Mexico, on the present and future of the Salesian school in America, an opportunity in which the various provinces of the Continent met to discuss the significance of schools in America.

At the meeting of the central commission, the various contributions of the participants to the Congress regarding the contents and methodologies were reviewed, together with valuable documents on the direction to take  over the next five years, which will entail, among other things, care of and reflection on the significance of the educative and pastoral proposal in the school. Such significance will be worked on in various dimensions of educational work, such as Salesian leadership, pedagogy with evangelising orientation, animation and pastoral accompaniment of the EPC and the management of significant results which are typical of the work of a significant educational community in its area.

The meeting of the central commission allowed progress to be made in the review of the proposals made by the various regions that make up the ESA in the Continent, according to each place and in the updating of the strategic planning for the coming years, in view of a new continental meeting envisaged for 2029, in the 6th continental meeting

Joint work is one of the keys to educational transformation in the coming years, not only as a methodological opportunity, but in view of the creation of meaningful content in school which promotes human talent and qualified relationships, and, above all, the evangelising educational process, in view of the formation of good Christians and upright citizens as the needs of the continent demand.

One of the significant advances of the Salesian school in America has been its commitment to networking, valuing the diversity of the various places where the Salesian charism is present, and taking as a fundamental criterion the preventive system that inspires not only pedagogy, but pastoral ministry, and permeates the entire spirituality of the proposals. The members of the central commission will continue to work remotely in the coming days to send the contents of the presentations given at the congress to the regions, as rich and valued content for formation, as well as the guidelines for the coming years, in view of the regional meetings that will take place towards the end of 2024 and scheduled for 2025.
