The event began with an Inaugural Mass celebrated by Fr. Savio Silveira, the SPCSA Provincial In-charge of Social Communication and the Provincial of the Salesian Province of Bombay. In his homily, Fr. Silveira highlighted Jesus as a model communicator, noting His committed, clear, creative, courageous, and compassionate style of conveying the Word of God, which serves as a paradigm for effective communication.
Later during the inaugural ceremony, Fr. Silveira underscored Don Bosco’s pioneering spirit in communication. He emphasized Don Bosco’s passion for the written word and urged participants to emulate this enthusiasm in their communication endeavors.
Fr. Harris Pakkam, the Director of ANS, articulated that VOICES 2024 aimed to equip participants to become proficient mobile journalists, effectively ‘giving voice to the voiceless.’ He stressed that MoJo offers a practical, immediate, and impactful way for Communication delegates to contribute to their Provinces and the Congregation, revolutionizing communication content.
Fr. Ernest Rosario, the South Asia delegate of Social Communication, expressed gratitude to the outgoing BOSCOM delegates for their dedication and initiatives. He welcomed the new delegates and provided an overview of the Boscom program, encouraging everyone to fully engage in the MoJo experience.
Fr. Biju Michael, the Regional Councillor for the South Asia region, addressed the participants through a video presentation. He congratulated them for leading the charge in bringing mobile journalism to their Provinces, the Salesian Congregation, and the Church at large.
The workshop on Mobile Journalism commenced with much enthusiasm. Resource persons Mr. Sumit Dhanaraj, Vice President of SIGNIS India, Mr. Gajendra Deoda, and Ms. Neha Sawanth, renowned MoJo experts, led sessions to impart essential skills. Ms. Phiba Thawbroi, a participant from Shillong, expressed her excitement to learn more about MoJo and explore its potential to take it back to her province.
