Porto Alegre, Brazil – May 2024 – On 18 May the 37 volunteers of UniSALESIANO, belonging to the Salesian Province of Campo Grande Brazil (BCG), began their humanitarian mission entitled "Health does not wait" in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, devastated by recent floods. The group consists of doctors, nurses, veterinarians, psychologists, final year nursing students and medical students with Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLs) qualifications and is led by Dr. Ângelo Jacomossi, head of the IESC Curriculum Unit and professor of the UniSALESIANO Medicine Course. The volunteers, after 28 hours of travel, arrived at their destination and were welcomed by Fr Ademir Ricardo Cwendrych, Superior of the Province of Porto Alegre Brazil (BPA), and by the Executive Director of the Don Bosco Faculty, Prof. Edson Avila. They were then accompanied to the various reception centres in the city and began their work in the emergency health services. Already a short time after their arrival, the group of volunteers has made a difference in the lives of many people in need of help. In addition to contributing to the provision of vital medical care, they have brought hope and humanity to the victims of the Rio Grande do Sul floods. "The dedication of the volunteers and the warm welcome they received highlight the importance and positive impact of their work," said Prof. André Ornellas, Pro-Rector for Teaching and Specialisation Studies at UniSALESIANO.
