In the 2015 encyclical Laudato Si ’, Pope Francis issued an invitation to the whole Church and to all humanity to take care of our "Common Home", an appeal passionately repeated in the most recent exhortation Laudate Deum.
The severity of the climate emergency and the ecological crisis require urgent action by everyone, starting with local communities. Thanks to the action of the Holy Spirit, many initiatives are emerging in different parts of the world and many communities are dedicating themselves to the care of the Earth, as well as of the most needy brothers and sisters, with a view to integral ecology.
In light of all this, the UPS, which has already joined the Laudato Si' Initiative Platform, has begun its own "Laudato Si' Club". Encouraged by Fr Joshtrom Kureethadam, UPS professor and Head of the Office for Ecology and Creation at the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, this initiative can and wants to affect the future of our Common Home and of human existence itself, starting from the bottom, thanks to targeted activities in three specific areas: Prayer, Reflection and Action.
The club therefore seeks to be a space where it is possible to deepen integral relationships and support each other, aiming at simpler lifestyles and prophetic witness.
"As a university family, the dream is to create a community that unites everyone in the search for sustainable and integral development, because, as indicated by the Pontiff, we are aware that things can change, and the best way is to do it together" promoters of the initiative say. "The cultural diversity and internationality that characterise our University can certainly favour the growth of this club and give rise to a lively and constant multicultural debate."
Just for today, Wednesday, May 22, 2024 – from 12:15 to 13:00, in classroom F01 – the "Laudato Si ’Club" at the UPS organised a new meeting of its members, and invited all students and teachers to participate.
