Spain – Towards the 10th Salesian Communication Day

19 February 2024

(ANS – Madrid) – A very special event will take place in Madrid on 29 February and 1 March 2024  for those who feel and live the world of information from a Salesian perspective: the Spanish National Delegation for Communication is organising the tenth edition of a forum that, year after year, brings together more than a hundred participants to share, reflect and plan the Salesian journey in this strategic key area of the Congregation.

The 10th Salesian Communication Day, promoted by the Salesians in Spain, will address the theme of Artificial Intelligence "starting from the keys and challenges of this new frontier" in an event aimed at local Delegates and communication managers of schools and educational institutions, the first recipients of the initiative, but which, as in previous years, is also open to Rectors, Pastoral Coordinators, those in charge of youth centres or parishes, or anyone from a variety of groups and environments with a sensitivity to communication.

The event, which has been held in person continuously since 2014 – with the exception of the 2021 and 2022 editions that were held digitally due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic – will bring together leading figures in the sector to discuss fundamental issues for the present and future of communication, and will allow us to work together on the design of projects to improve Salesian communication today and tomorrow.

The two-day formation and discussion programme includes several high-level conferences and workshops. It will begin on the morning of Thursday 29th with the welcome and presentation of the purpose of the day by the National Delegate for Social Communications of the Salesians in Spain, Fr Javier Valiente, who will also hold the first conference for the event, entitled "From collective intelligence to artificial intelligence. The Salesian vision: education, communication and young people".

Also speaking in the morning will be Charo Fernández Aguirre, a teacher linked to training at the "Escuelas Católicos" network and involved in numerous activities related to the use of Information and Communication Technologies for teacher training since 2005 – through the foundation of the "Aulablog" association, whose main objective is to promote the significant improvement of the quality of classroom education and the creation of teacher networks.

Two successive series of workshops will be held In the afternoon, conducted by experts in the respective sectors, in the style of the so-called "TEDx talks", with the aim of providing participants with indications on how to use Artificial Intelligence tools for communication, creativity and education; in addition to the point of view of teachers such as Javier Monteagudo, who collaborates with various schools in the training of teachers in areas related to educational change; and Francisco García Donate, university professor and member of Digital Communication at the consulting company "LLYC Global".

On the morning of Friday, 1 March,  work will resume with the presentation by Idoia Salazar, an expert and consultant in the field of digital regulation, lawyer of the Council of State and professor of Digital Law, who will speak on some legal and ethical aspects in relation to Artificial Intelligence.

Finally, there will be time for group work, sharing and debate on what was heard and experienced during the day.

For those interested, it is still possible to register on the waiting list for places that may be vacated at the last moment among the more than 100 members who registered for this event last November.

For the dissemination of the initiative, the Salesians of Spain have created the website https://salesianos.info/jornadadecomunicacion, where all the information, speakers and last-minute details will be uploaded until the event takes place.
