16 February 2024

(ANS – Rome) – The film "Zatti, hermano nuestro" – a production of the Salesian Bulletin and of the two Provinces of Argentina, North and South, written and directed by Fr Ricardo Campoli, member of the Social Communication Sector of the Salesian Congregation – was the winning film at the 15th edition of the international festival of Catholic filmography "Mirabile Dictu", in the short film category. The award ceremony took place on the evening of Thursday 15 February 2024, in the fine setting of Palazzo Cesi in Rome, near the Vatican.

“I have no words to thank you for this recognition, so I start with the words that say it all: Thank you very much. I always think that at festivals a certain audiovisual project or a nominated film does not win, but cinema wins, art wins, culture wins " were the first words spoken by Fr Campoli after receiving the award.

"‘Zatti, hermano nostro' is also an example of these words," he continued. It was above all a collective work, and for this I would like to thank those who made it possible: our beloved Rector Major, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, who blessed this project, the Salesian Mission Office in Madrid, the Salesian Provinces of Argentina, North and South, and above all the Salesian Bulletin of Argentina led by Mr. Juan José Chiappetti and Fr Fernando Canigia and their team of collaborators. The list would be very long and that is why the film's end credits are well written. All those who appear there were true artists at the service of the Kingdom. Thank you to everyone. ”

From Vietnam, where he is currently engaged in the Team Visit to the East Asia – Oceania Region, the General Councillor for Social Communication, Fr Gildasio Mendes, also had words of satisfaction and encouragement for this award.

"Our congratulations and our most heartfelt wishes for the victory of the award of the ‘Mirabile Dictu International Catholic Film Festival’ to you, Fr Ricardo, and to all those who participated in the production of this beautiful film! Congratulations on behalf of the Social Communication Sector and our Delegates and Communication teams. May this award be an incentive for many other Salesians and young communicators to be motivated to make more films for evangelisation".

The short film "Zatti, Hermano Nuestro" (Zatti, Our Brother) is a project that was made in 2019 and whose launch took place in July 2020 – so when the Salesian nursing Brother of Viedma was still Blessed for the Catholic Church. During the gala evening of the award ceremony, highlighted were the importance and relevance of the figure of holiness of Artemides Zatti, Son of Don Bosco, born in Italy and made a saint in Argentina, a Salesian brother who lived consecrated secularity, the embodiment of the mission dreamed of by Don Bosco for poor young people and a perfect model for the current times of a synodal and outgoing Church.

The "Mirabile Dictu" festival is an international Catholic film festival founded in 2010 under the High Patronage of the Pontifical Council for Culture, now the Dicastery for Culture and Education. It was conceived by director and producer Liana Marabini to give space to producers and directors of films, documentaries, docu-fictions, TV series, short films and programmes that promote universal moral values and positive models.

Over 2,000 works were nominated for this year's edition in three different categories (Best Short, Best Film and Best Documentary), to which the Best Director section must be added.

The winners decreed by the international Jury, chaired by the Princess and actress Maria Pia Ruspoli (Italy), and composed of the distributor and producer Norbert Blecha (Austria),  journalists Luca Caruso (Vatican) and Wlodzimierz Redzioch (Poland), and actor Rupert Wynne-James (United Kingdom), were awarded the "Silver Fish" award of the Festival – a reference to the symbol used by the first Christian communities.

The short film "Zatti, Hermano Nuestro" is always available in the original version in Spanish, and dubbed in Italian, English, Portuguese and French, on YouTube.
