India - Opening of the 29th Provincial Chapter of the Salesian Province of India-Chennai
Chennai, India – January 2024 – The 29th Provincial Chapter of the Salesian Province of India-Chennai (INM) opened in the late afternoon of 14 January. Archbishop George Antonysamy, archbishop of Madras-Mylapore, opened the Provincial Chapter with a solemn Mass. Immediately afterwards, Don Bosco Lourdusamy, INM Provincial, welcomed the 123 Chapter members, urging them to seize this propitious moment to reflect, renew and rejoice. Fr Lourdusamy then illustrated the theme of Strenna 2024, inviting members to make it the essence of the entire Salesian journey. Some representatives of the Salesian Family were also rewarded during the inaugural ceremony, each of them sharing brief messages with Chapter members. Subsequently, letters from Fr Alphonse Owoudou, Councillor for the Africa-Madagascar Region, who will be moderator of GC29, and Fr Biju Michael, Councillor for the South Asia Region, were read to those present. Finally, the Moderator of the Provincial Chapter, Fr John Britto Savarinathan, provided further insights and details outlining the vision of the Chapter and reiterating the commitment of the Salesians to promote a spirit of dialogue, discernment and accompaniment for young people.
