Kenitra, Morocco - January 2024 - The General Councillor for Missions, Fr Alfred Maravilla, was in Kenitra, Morocco, for a fraternal visit to the Salesian community from 12 to 15 January. During the visit he was accompanied by Fr Domenico Paternò, Superior of the St Augustine Special Circumscription of North Africa (CNA). During the visit he was able to appreciate the work of the Salesians among young Moroccans and the pastoral service among sub-Saharan Christian university students. Accompanied by Fr Paternò, he also had the opportunity to meet the Archbishop of Rabat, Cardinal Cristóbal López Romero, SDB, as well as the Archbishop of Algiers and the Bishop-designate of Oran, who were in Rabat for their meeting as the Episcopal Conference of North Africa. In the ‘Good Night’ to the community, at the end of his visit, Fr Maravilla stressed that the meaning of the Salesian presence in North Africa is a presence of Christian witness in an Islamic context. Therefore, he stressed, it is of primary importance to live the Salesian consecrated life in a joyful and attractive way.
