Gabutu, Papua New Guinea – January 2024 – On 5 and 6 January, about a hundred children and older youth from the towns of Sabama, Gabutu and Sere Kone gathered at the Don Bosco Technical School in Gabutu to take part in a two-day catechetical programme. The event was led by Fr Ambrose Pereira, Coordinator of Social Communication for the East Asia-Oceania Region and of the Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands (PGS) Vice-Province, parish priest of the parish of Mary Help of Christians of Sabama, in collaboration with Fr Pedro Sachitula, Bro. Philip Hwang, Fr Angel Fazzini and Conrad Vimalit. Several topics were addressed and discussed over the two days. In particular, the little ones were taught the importance of the Bible and were helped to understand the different liturgical elements, while the older ones talked about the dignity and sacredness of life, the sacrament of reconciliation and the sacrament of marriage. The programme was accompanied by audiovisual media, songs and dances. The Missionary Sisters of Charity were also a source of inspiration and all the sessions were well received by the participants.
