Mexico – Presentation of the logo for the 30th anniversary of CRESCO

30 November 2023

(ANS – Tlaquepaque) – Preparations have begun for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Specific Formation Centre for Salesian Brothers from the two American Regions - Interamerica and America South Cone  - also known as CRESCO, from the Spanish acronym (Centro Regional de Formación Específica del Salesiano Coadjutor). The Salesians from the community unveiled the logo that will accompany the celebrations.

The 30th anniversary logo has a subtle but significant detail that says a lot about the identity of the Salesian Brother. It is the intersection of the two haloes painted yellow. As in a Venn diagram, this intersection represents, firstly, the love of God, who precedes every creature with his providence, accompanies it with his presence and saves it by giving his own life (C. 20); and secondly, the obedience of a working father who, trusting in Providence, was able to accept God's call with courage.

It was 19 March 1994, the Solemnity of St Joseph, when the Salesian Brothers Formation House was officially opened in San Salvador, with the name CRESCO. The community was based in El Salvador for 12 years. Then, after a short break, the CRESCO community was opened in Guatemala in 2008, at the San José work. Subsequently, the Rector Major and his Council decided that the CRESCO community would become part of the Mexico-Guadalajara (MEG) Province, calling itself  St Joseph Community, CRESCO America, and that it would start functioning as such, legally, on 1 February 2022.

To celebrate this anniversary, Fr Pascual Chávez, former Provincial of MEG and Rector Major Emeritus, will preach the Spiritual Exercises to the Salesian Brothers at CRESCO from 3 to 8 March 2024, followed by two days of fraternal sharing.
