Fr Enrico Stasi, director of the Institute, guided the visit starting from the historical places built in 1941; the Cinema Theatre, the Oratory and the Parish. Fr Stasi briefly told the story of the Salesian community and the beginnings of Salesian work. Subsequently, the premises of the Vocational Training Centre were shown, in particular the TechPro² workshop, where some students illustrated the characteristics of their training.
The morning continued at the new Mechatronics, Computer Science, Energy and Electronics laboratories at the Technical Institute, the latter also created thanks to the contribution of the Agnelli Foundation and opened in September 2021. The main people in the visit were the students of the school, who demonstrated the potential of the equipment for Elkann and the various places, their study areas, including biomedicine, introduced this year in the Electrical Electronics section.
Visiting the various areas, Elkann also had the opportunity to meet some guests of the Social Housing (residential social housing project) that are part of this vast Salesian work, accompanied by Fr Alberto Zanini.
At the end of the visit to the laboratories, Elkann opened the new school library by symbolically cutting the ribbon. It will become a teaching area in the morning for active and laboratory experience, while in the afternoon it can be used for study, research, free reading and consultation of bibliographic material.
Elkann visited this area and also met some members of the Agnelli Book Club, a group of students and teachers passionate about books. It organises several projects and activities during the school year aimed at spreading a love for reading.
At the end of the visit, a group of middle school students gave a short musical performance.
This visit is in addition to the many occasions, throughout the history of the institute, on which the Agnelli Family has visited the house. Lawyer Giovanni Agnelli visited the work five times (1953, 1954, 1985, 1993, 1996), the last of these accompanied by his young grandson John.
