It was 11 November 1875 when in the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians, Turin, Don Bosco blessed Fr. John Cagliero, the leader of the first Missionary Expedition, and his other confreres destined for Patagonia, Argentina.
11 November 2025 will therefore be exactly 150 years since that great event, which meant so much for the global and charismatic development of the Congregation and subsequently of the Salesian Family.
According to the indications offered by the Missions Sector, the anniversary logo should express the sense of unity of the entire Salesian Congregation and the dynamic thrust towards the growth of the missionary spirit, taking into account the three verbs expressed in the motto: Give Thanks, Rethink, Relaunch. Moreover, the number '150' must also be clearly visible.
All Provinces were asked to participate in the competition through their Provincial Delegate for Missionary Animation, in collaboration with the Delegate for Social Communication and the relevant lay people and graphic designers.
After the collection and selection of materials, the winner will be chosen personally by Cardinal Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesians, and will be announced in December 2023.
Following the success of the competition to find the poster for the Strenna for 2024 - the year of the Bicentenary of Don Bosco's 9-year Dream - this new competition to choose the logo for the 150th anniversary of the Salesian Missions also promises to generate a rich variety of high-quality options.
The author of the winning logo will be awarded a prize of €1,875, a symbolic sum also commemorating the year of the first Salesian Missionary Expedition.
All technical details for the logo design are available in the PDF files at the bottom of the page.
