Brazil - DBGYFF 2023 Short films animate the Youth of Several Salesian houses in the Recife area

19 October 2023

(ANS - Recife-PE) - The second edition of the "Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival", the Salesian film festival of and for the young people, officially ended on 13-14 October 2023. The main event was held at Los Angeles and was accompanied by hundreds of simultaneous screenings in more than 200 venues across the world. But there is no time limit to disseminate the films and celebrate the imagination, creativity and efforts of the young people of the Salesian world. On Wednesday 18 October, three Salesian centres in the Metropolitan Region of Recife - the "Dom Bosco" Educational Centre in Jaboatão, the "Curado" Oratory and the "Dom Bosco" School in Recife - held special screenings of DBGYFF short films, in which the prize winning Brazilian short films at the festival were screened and discussed in depth by the young people.

The DBGYFF 2023 aimed to unite, educate, and empower young people around the world on the theme 'Love Builds Peace and Solidarity', with the mission of making young people ambassadors of love and catalysts of change and transformation, inviting them to dream big and emerge as protagonists capable of sowing love and building peace and solidarity in the world.

Therefore, considering the spirit of the festival, the importance of creating an environment for open discussions and encouraging participation in them was emphasized at the various screenings there organized. Thus, in addition to enjoying the performance of the short films, the students had the opportunity to comment and discuss what they had seen and perceived, to express their opinions and share their ideas.

"Today I saw a film where you could see how you can lose a man's heart. Immediately I thought about my father and my mother who separated after a fight, but then they got together later and got married. That's what happened to my father and mother, just like in the film that I had just seen! They lost their hearts and then found them together again," commented little Sabrina, just 7 years old, who attends the oratory in Curado.

The experience of the Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival has shown that uniting young people from different parts of the world around a message of love, peace and solidarity can be useful and beneficial in many ways, because it encourages imagination and creativity, fosters art, celebrates Salesian identity at its best. It proves yet again that education goes beyond the classroom and can be a powerful tool for building a more inclusive and harmonious world.
