The first of the two Chilean short film finalists were: 'Don Bosco en el corazón' (Don Bosco in the heart), a short film made by students Patricio Jara, Benjamín Ponce, Renato Diaz, Matías Cofré and Nicolás Albornoz from the third year of the Humanistic-Scientific Education course at the Salesian centre in Talca.
Accompanying them in the conception and realization of the short film was their teacher Karel Fonseca, who was the artistic director and proposed the project to them from the "drawing and painting" workshop offered by the school.
"We are satisfied with what we have achieved. It was two months of hard work on this project. Participating and being selected among the finalists filled us with joy, as well as knowing that the young Salesians of Chile have the intellectual and artistic skills of their peers around the world," said Mr. Fonseca.
'Drogas' (Drugs) was the second short film from Chile to participate in the DBGYFF World Finals. It was conceived and developed by the third-year students of the Humanistic-Scientific Education of the Salesian Educational Centre of Alameda: Juan Arroyo, Fidel Espinosa, Vicente Cortés, Carlos Iturra, Julio Martínez and Matías Díaz.
The project, led by the pedagogical area of the centre, was an interdisciplinary work of the art, language, and English departments.
The project was accompanied by their teachers: Gladys Rivera (pedagogical coordinator), Daisy Morales (language teacher), Luis Iturriaga (head of the English department) and Rodrigo Ahumada (head of the art department).
The young people participating in the project said: "We want the people watching this video to reflect on the reality of life that some young people have to face because of the ill-treatment they have suffered in their families.” “We put in a lot of time, effort, and dedication into making this film. We are thankful for the help we have received from our teachers in making the video and we know that without them we could not have got to where we did. Above all, we are thankful for the help of our language teacher Daisy Morales, who instructed us very well to produce a script that could compete at the highest levels," the students commented.
