Brazil - Meeting of Radio and Communication Organisations

26 September 2023

Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Brazil - September 2023 - The Salesian Province of Brazil-Recife (BRE), on 23 and 24 September promoted the Meeting of Radio and Communication Organisations at the Colônia Salesiana São Sebastião. The first day was marked by an address from Sister Márcia Koffermann, FMA, on "New trends in Radio caused by new technologies and new media". According to Sister Koffermann, "Today, radio stops being just a sound medium and becomes a hybrid medium that allows multi-platforms. In this context, concepts such as cross-media and transmediality become fundamental. These cross-media and transmedia processes respond to the audience's new needs to be more participative and to stop being mere recipients." The participants then took part in the "Implementing transmediality in radio production" workshop. The group was divided into four teams, each of which developed a guide for building narrative and transmedia practices such as a project that can be developed online. On the last day of the meeting, the "Tools for building an audience on social networks" workshop took place with marketing specialist Rodrigo Lima. The guest speaker discussed audience analysis tools and audience relations. Fr João Carlos Ribeiro, BRE Vice-Provincial, gave the final reports of the meeting, outlining the objectives and work to be carried out by the participants. "We encourage increasingly networked and shared processes through training" he explained. Salesian broadcasters in Latin America also followed the event via YouTube, with the help and articulation of the radio sector of the Social Communication Team of the Americas (ECSA).
