Uruguay - "Talleres Don Bosco" shines at the National Energy Efficiency Award
Montevideo, Uruguay - September 2023 - The 'Talleres Don Bosco' (TDB) Vocational Trainign Centre in Montevideo took part in the National Energy Efficiency Award, an initiative carried out by Uruguay's Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines (MIEM, in Spanish). The purpose of the award is to give visibility to the commitment of institutions, companies and organisations in relation to saving and efficient use of energy in different sectors. This Salesian work was nominated with its course on "Specialisation in Hybrid and Electric Vehicles" in the Formal Education category, which aims to provide participants with a global vision of the world of electric mobility and its link with environmental sustainability, as well as accompanying the reconversion of traditional mechanics by cross-referencing their knowledge with the demands of the current market. The course was created in 2019 through collaboration between the education team and several companies in the automotive sector that were already working with electric vehicles. A discussion with technicians from the various automotive manufacturers took place with the aim of gathering relevant information for the design of the curriculum for the area's technical training proposal, which would complement the training of mechanics in the working world. Over the past year, TDB has trained more than 70 young people, with the support of numerous companies that decided to train their workers, teams and technicians in the automotive sector. During the event, TDB representatives also highlighted the efforts made in terms of energy efficiency, through the installation of 150 solar panels that help meet the institute's energy demand.
