Medellín, Colombia - September 2023 - The First Province Meeting on Human Rights, convened by the Province's Commission on Human Rights, concluded on 19 September in Medellín with great satisfaction. The main objective was to consolidate the capacities of local leaders and representatives to motivate the educative and pastoral processes in each house, with particular attention to Provincial Policy on Human Rights, Inclusion and Non-Discrimination, through a document that was officially launched during the event. The seminar entitled "Perspectives on Human Rights in the Salesian Mission: Opportunities, Challenges and Recommendations", an academic event whose keynote speakers were Fr Rafael Bejarano and Salesian Brother Juan Carlos Echavarría, was held as part of the meeting. Then, thanks to the holding of two round tables and a visit to the San Javier neighbourhood in Medellín's "Comuna 13", it was possible to recreate what had been theorised in the coordinated into the local area and society. The meeting, which lasted two days, was attended above representatives of local communities in the Salesian Province of Medellín, but also had the special assistance of a large delegation from the San Pedro Claver Province of Bogotá, to reaffirm the will to continue working together among the Salesians in Colombia to achieve  a set of unified criteria for analysis, reflection and action that promote a Salesian culture of human rights.
