El Salvador - Annual meeting of the School Commission of the Central American Region's Reflection Team

19 September 2023

Ayagualo, El Salvador - September 2023 - The annual meeting of the reflection team of the School Commission of the Central American Region (CERCA, in Spanish) was held from 7 to 9 September. This year marks 25 years since the birth of CERCA, a time in which efforts have been made to promote reflection, animation and educational activity in the Salesian presence in Central America. This period has also seen the creation of a culture of shared responsibility and networking among the Salesians of Don Bosco, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and the Daughters of the Divine Saviour. On this occasion the reflection team, enlightened by guidelines from the Salesian School in America (ESA), sought to enhance the educational pastoral activity of the Network in the region. Led by Fr Víctor Bermúdez, SDB, the participants reflected on the strength of Salesian identity as a response to the new educational challenges, as well as on Educational Marketing and the importance of communicating the value of Salesian educational centres, thanks to the intervention of Alejandra Rodríguez from the Social Communication Office of the Province of Central America (CAM). Subsequently, a strenuous work of analysis and reflection began on concrete proposals for the "re-signification" of CERCA, as well as the revision of the statutes and the presentation of the work plan for the year 2024. The agreements made at this meeting were to discuss the re-shaping of the Central American Schools Network, to align the network's new strategic plan with the new ESA V criteria, and to continue to guarantee activities encouraging all the actors in educative and pastoral communities, starting from the common guidelines of the three congregations.
