RMG – Strenna for 2024: here is what is new for being involved in the poster competition

31 August 2023

(ANS – Rome) – Since the Congregation's Social Communication Sector launched the Strenna poster competition for 2024, graphic designers, illustrators and designers have been mobilised throughout the Salesian Family. Several proposals have already been received by Salesian Headquarters. And now, to encourage participation, the deadline for submitting proposals has been extended, and detailed guidelines are offered on the necessary technical requirements.

The theme of the Rector Major's Strenna for 2024, announced by the Rector Major at the end of the last summer plenary session of the General Council, has aroused great interest and strong enthusiasm throughout the global Salesian Family. The reference to Don Bosco’s dream when he was 9, an anticipation and fundamental reference for all his apostolic action, is a powerful invitation for lay and consecrated people to renew their following of the Founder, to find a way of sanctification and service.

From this perspective the Strenna poster, like all the aids that will accompany it, becomes an important tool for transmitting the Rector Major's message that will guide and accompany the entire bicentennial year of the dream, 2024.

"The dream that makes you dream. A heart that transforms ‘wolves‘ into ’lambs‘" is the motto to be translated into images. But according to the appropriate parameters: this is why the Communication Sector reminds us that the poster must have universal charm and language; the images must be all-embracing or neutral, able to "speak" to everyone; the Strenna caption must be clearly highlighted; the dimensions of the poster must be 48 by 67 cm; CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) colour profile; the graphic resolution of at least 150 dpi (pixels/inch).

In order to encourage even greater participation by graphic centres and illustrators, it was decided to postpone the deadline for submission of proposals from 5 September 2023 to Sunday 10 September. Each proposal is to be sent by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Subsequently, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, with his team, will see to the final selection phase of the poster.

The authors of the first three selected posters will also be honoured with a cash prize of €2,000, 1,250 and 750 respectively.
