(ANS – Guatemala City) – Young people from all over the world will gather in Lisbon from 1 to 6 August,  invited by Pope Francis to the 38th World Youth Day (WYD). The Salesians from the Province of Central America (CAM) will be there with a delegation of young people from the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM), from the six countries that make up the Province (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama). These young people prepared together through eight formation sessions, three of which were carried out online, accompanied by a Salesian priest delegated to each country and the Provincial Delegate for the Salesian Youth Movement, Fr Jean Paul Bethancourt.

Each national delegation has organised its own travel itinerary, but all will meet on Sunday 30 July in Lisbon. Without forgetting that young people from Salesian settings around the world will all be together as a macro-group within the multitude of young Catholics from all over the globe thanks to the WYD DON BOSCO 23 organisation and the Salesians in Portugal.

On 2 August the total delegation of 188 CAM pilgrims will participate in the forum with Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesians, and in the SYM world celebration.

The following day the group will attend the concert in the Church of St Paul and will welcome Pope Francis on his traditional arrival tour at WYD.

On Friday, 4 August they will experience the Way of the Cross and on the 5th will experience the universal Church with the evening vigil, before the concluding Mass on Sunday the 5th, the Mass of Sending of Pilgrims. CAM youth will also visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima before returning to their homes.

The Central American delegation comprises the following:

From Guatemala there are 53 young people, accompanied by Fr Luis Fernando Acevedo Villagram; from El Salvador there will be 60 pilgrims, led by Fr Francisco Javier Rodríguez Arévalo and Fr Walter Solis; from Honduras there will be 25 young people, with Fr Douglas Alexander Perez Gómez in the lead.

For Nicaragua there are 14 participants, accompanied by Fr Alejandro José Lacayo González; in Costa Rica 17 young people have enrolled, who will be on pilgrimage together with Fr José Ramiro Aguirre López and practical trainee Victor Barrios, SDB. Finally, the 18 young people from Panama will be led by Delia Rodríguez and Fr Neri Alejandro Paniagua Ramírez.

The Salesian Bulletin in Central America will follow the experiences of the pilgrims step by step, and will be published on the various social networks thanks to six correspondents who will share their experience day by day.
