The event began with the recreation of a sacred dance, led by Almudena Rodríguez, to connect the public present at the museum with the exhibition space on Amazonia, and which served as a preamble to the guided tour of the exhibition itself.
Edu León, the photographer who contributed 82 images to the “Amazonia: narratives of the territories” Exhibition, explained the struggles of the Ecuadorian Amazonian communities to defend their rights in their territories; while the technical head of the Museum's research, Virginia Escribá, related the temporary photographic exhibition to the Shuar ethnographic cultural heritage in the Ecuadorian and Peruvian Amazon.
In the second part of the event, then, live shows, music and theatre were the main features. In addition, projects to raise awareness of caring for the environment around the world were also presented. Ángela Denore, Coordinator of the Misiones Salesianas European Projects, stressed that there is a desire to promote “synergies between organisations such as ours, cultural spaces and environmental projects on the European scene to generate significant changes in environmental care.”
Exhibitions like this therefore also serve as spaces for sharing the Misiones Salesianas projects.
We then talked about the nARTure European project, developed with the High Mountain (Greece) and Arte.M (Madeira, Portugal) partners, which highlights precisely how the exhibitions act as spaces for sharing resources, to accompany the European Green Pact.
And, again, the Amazonia y Vida (Amazon and Life) project, funded by the Community of Madrid, emphasises that students “acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to promote sustainable development, human rights, gender equality and the promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence,” as Eva Orozco, Global Citizenship Education Technique, commented.
Finally, Paloma Montero, Head of the Social Transformation area of Misiones Salesianas stressed how “the enthusiasm for changes, even in schools, puts us in front of a new scenario, to put green pedagogy into practice in the projects we carry out.”
