Peru – Salesian Youth Movement, Chosica: 25 years of a love story

Chosica, Peru – June2023 - The Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) in Chosica officially came into being on 11 June 1998. A mission that, 25 years later, continues to bear its best fruits. To celebrate this event, young people who have been and are part of youth groups, lay people and Salesians of Don Bosco, came together to commemorate this special date. There were two days of intense celebrations on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 June, in which the young people who have belonged to the SYM in Chosica over the years took part with gratitude and joy. On Saturday the 10th there was a gala in honour of the 25th anniversary of the foundation, which was attended by the current members and those who have shared and accompanied this mission for many years. On Sunday the 11th, the central day of the festivities, a solemn Eucharist was celebrated in the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians by Fr Uriel Jáuregui, Delegate for Salesian Youth Ministry in Peru, concelebrated by Fr Humberto Chávez, Vice-Provincial of PER, Fr Stefan Górecki, Rector of the Salesian Community in Chosica, Fr Lalo Gonzáles, one of the Salesians who was most inolved at the beginnings of the SYM in Chosica and, finally, the Salesians from the work. It was a day of fraternal sharing where enthusiasm, joy, music and dance shone through.
