In this project, organised by TICandBOT, a company created 8 years ago by a teacher from the Salesian centre in Logroño, together with the students from FP Dural, the students at the school learned to create a communication infrastructure – contracting the Starlink satellite internet service for the purpose – and services at the old school in the village. They also learned to develop applications as if they were in an office in an urban environment, but with the advantages of being in an idyllic rural environment in a project that combined rural entrepreneurship, new technologies and educational innovation.
For four days, and with more than 20 activities scheduled, #Hackrural involved companies in the ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) sector such as “UNIR”, “MassComm”, “Booker”, “FormaTICRioja”, “Codexpert” and “Bosonit”, and other interventions by qualified professionals.
In addition to developing the services for which they had been involved, the young students had the unique opportunity to spend days in full contact with nature, taking walks in the open air, getting involved in beekeeping and milking workshops, making a visit to the mines at Jubera.
“These were unforgettable days of shared life between students, ‘young people’ in San Martín, teachers and professionals in the ICT sector, without forgetting the typical good things in the area, such as the chuletadas or the games of ‘frontón’ and the swimming pool,” says the team of teachers responsible for the project.
"From here we want to pay credit to all the students from our school who participated in the project for their attitude, their proactivity and their know-how which they developed and put into practice during these days: you have been an example for all of us.
