Peru – Celebrating one hundred years of Salesian presence in Huancayo
Huancayo, Peru – June 2023 – A solemn Eucharist was celebrated at the Santa Rosa Salesian school in Huancayo to celebrate the one hundredth anniversary of the arrival of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Huancayo. The main celebrant was Fr Juan Pablo Alcas Michilot, Superior of the Salesian Province of Peru (PER). The exciting celebration was accompanied by the members of the San José Obrero Salesian community: Fr Julio Berroa, Rector of the community, Fr Fredy Valdivia, pastoral coordinator, and Fr Juan Espinoza, responsible for the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians. It was a moment of gratitude and joy for the journey made over the years. At the beginning of the celebration the Provincial, in addition to welcoming young people, families and authorities, joyfully said, “The Lord has been great. The Lord wanted the love of Mary Help of Christians and the love of Don Bosco to make us Salesians. All of us here continue the Salesian journey. ” Before concluding the solemn Eucharist, a group of teachers at the school read a message of thanksgiving for the 100 years of Salesian presence. The message was joined by the Mayor of the Tambo district, Julio César Llallico, the Director of the Dominica Toledana Educational Community, Lucy Verdad, and, finally, the Director of the Don Bosco Salesian Technical Institute in Huancayo, Percy Barreto.
