Italy – Eucharistic centrality in evangelization of young people: charism in search of the new

23 February 2023

(ANS - Rome) - For the cycle "Which Salesians for Today's Youth?", promoted by the Conference of the Provinces of Italy (CISI) - Formation Sector and the Study Center of the Opera dei Tabernacoli Viventi (OTV), an interview with Fr. Flaviano D'Ercoli, Director of the Salesian house "Gerini" in Rome, will be broadcast live next Saturday, Feb. 25, from 9 to 10:15 a.m. (UTC+1). The interview is part of the path launched by CISI - Formation and OTV to explore and discuss the guidelines of the Rector Major after the 28th General Chapter and, in the analysis of the Salesian precept of "Da mihi animas," he will address the theme: "The Eucharistic centrality in the evangelization of young people: the charism in search of the new."

In going to the root of Don Bosco's "Da mihi animas, cetera tolle" one inevitably encounters the passion for youth that is generated from Jesus' passion for souls. Jesus' offering in His sacrifice on the cross, the culmination of the passion, has its prelude in the Passover supper, in the gift of the Eucharist to His disciples and the whole Church. "Without the Eucharist there would be no Church, there would be no real presence of Jesus, it would be impossible to evangelize young people, to turn wolves into lambs," explain the coordinators of the initiative.

The central points of next Saturday's reflection will focus on:

- "Seeking the New: What does it mean?

- The vocational timbre of youth ministry is the true leaven of novelty;

- How to make young people grow in this perspective?

- The center of all this is the Eucharistic life.
