Brazil – Over 1,500 families visited by Young Missionaries Project 2023
Porto Alegre, Brazil - January 2023 - The 2023 Young Missionaries Project (PMJ) reached 1,554 families visited in just one week, January 15-21. The Salesian missionary volunteer experience involved 70 people, including youth, Salesians in formation, and Salesians from the "São Pio X" Province of Porto Alegre (BPA). The missions were held at "Senhor Bom Jesus dos Passos" Parish, in Piraquara (PR), "Nossa Senhora da Luz das Cacimbinhas" Parish, in Pinheiro Machado (RS), and "São Miguel Arcanjo" Parish, in Mirim Doce (SC). In addition to home visits, with the blessing of families, the projects put the Salesian charism into practice through oratory activities for children and youth. Following Don Bosco's proposal, the missionaries brought the Salesian message of holiness and joy. "It is a time of expanding the charism through visits, oratories, and celebrations. It is also a time to experience the Salesian charism," said Fr. Leandro Pinheiro, SDB, BPA Provincial Secretary, who accompanied the project in Rio Grande do Sul. "For us Salesians it is always a special moment of accompaniment, conversation, and opening of the heart. It is a great pleasure to be part of this," concluded Fr. Pinheiro.
