Ecuador - Provincial Chapter of Salesians of Ecuador

Guayaquil, Ecuador - November 2022 - "Salesians, consecrated and lay people with and for the youth of today and tomorrow," was the theme of the Provincial Chapter of the Salesians of Ecuador (ECU), held last November 14-18. The meeting was a time lived in an atmosphere of prayer, reflection, and sincere search for new ways to respond to the needs of the recipients. The Chapter was attended by 66 people, including Salesians, representatives of the Salesian Family, lay people and invited young people, who contributed to the construction of proposals in each of the proposed axes: Salesian Community and Salesians; Salesians and Laity; Salesian Mission; Sustainability and Management of Human Talents and Provincial Redesign. On the opening day, Fr. Francisco Sánchez, ECU Provincial, began by inviting the participants to live the Provincial Chapter under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, who encourages them to "discern what God wants at this moment in history for our Provincial community." After the opening, Fr. Marcelo Farfán, director of the Postnovitiate, offered Salesian theological enlightenment on the Chapter and the report of the Regulator, Fr. Juan Flores, was shared. Afterward, group work began according to each of the proposed matrices and respective votes were taken. These workspaces were accompanied by moments of deep prayer and the celebration of the Eucharist. The Economic Directory was the last document presented to the chapter members. Fr. Luis Mosquera, Provincial Economer, expounded on the theme and then worked on the contributions that enrich the document, which aims to regulate the personal, community, and institutional practice of economic management in all communities and works of the Province. The Chapter closed on Friday, November 18, with the celebration of the Eucharist and a fraternal sharing animated by the young people present.
