India - Salesian Family transforms Life of the Region: CM of Meghalaya

Shillong, India – 27 October 2022 - The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma, hoisted the flag for the centenary celebration of the arrival of the first Salesians in Northeast India on October 27th in the presence of MDC Ronnie V Lyngdoh as the Guest of Honor, Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh, Provincials of the Indian Salesian provinces, and delegates from across the country. The CM lauded the Salesian Family for transforming the lives of the region. "It's a moment to celebrate what has happened and also a moment to look back and think about how things have changed, and have been better, of how we were in the journey as both an individual and an organization, to plan where we will want to be, and not just for an organization," said the Chief Minister. Sangma expressed his concern over the future of the young and said that if the right investment is not made in youngsters, we are heading towards a very difficult time in the future. Fr. Anthony Kharkongor welcomed the gathering. Centenary coordinators Fr. AL Jose and Fr. Anthony Kharkongor felicitated all the guests who attended the Program. Meanwhile, the director of Don Bosco Youth Centre, Fr. Michael Makri presented the song 'We jubilate' and introduced the tribute made by young people of the Northeast. The programs featured performances by the students of St Anthony's Higher Secondary School, a theme song performed by the Trinity Voices, Pynthorumkhrah, and concluded with entertainment by the Savio Juniorate band of Shillong.
