Brazil – Communication network of America continues to expand

(ANS - São Paulo) - On September 13, 2022, the General Councilor for Social Communication, Fr. Gildasio Mendes, chaired the meeting of the Social Communication Team of America (ECSA).  During the meeting, which was attended by his team, Delegates in charge of Radio, Salesian Bulletin, Salesian publishing houses, and those in charge of other communication services, the communication plan for the continent was updated, taking into consideration:

- The Rector Major's program guidelines for the six-year period following the 28th General Chapter, especially the proposals on the Salesian sacrament of presence, formation of Salesians and laity for digital communication, shared mission with the laity, integral ecology, and working with the poorest youth.

- Pope Francis' proposal presented to the Global Covenant for Education, in particular, proposals on putting the person at the center of communication, the mission of women in communication, integral ecology, and youth leadership.

- The proposal of the Communication Sector of the Salesian Congregation: an evangelical, synodal, Salesian, convergent, and artistic communication.

For this reason, at the end of the Delegates' meeting, the team stayed an extra day at the "Pius XI" Center in the city of Lapa to reflect on the communication plan and the most important lines of action for 2023.

This commission brings together the sectors: Radio, Salesian Bulletin, Publishing Houses, and other services, as well as Spanish and Portuguese language representatives. Each sector of this committee shared the work done so far, plans and projects, and the agenda for 2023.

Among the priority activities for the coming year is preparation for the Bicentennial of Don Bosco's nine-year dream: it was agreed to produce a variety of materials among the various Provinces and share and disseminate them through their respective media.

In addition, activities around the canonization of Artemide Zatti were prepared, and communication teams and their Delegates were included in the official WhatsApp group to receive the canonization materials and disseminate them in their Provinces.

Finally, the team has been working on finalizing details regarding participation in the World Consulta to be held in Portugal next October and in the World Congress of Social Communication, which will bring together sector Delegates from around the world in Rome in August 2024.

This team meets online twice a year, or as often as necessary to track the progress of each sector.
